May the 4th Be With You!

It’s not *technically* a requirement that SpeedTree employees be Star Wars fans, but most of us are pretty serious about it. We rarely go a week without discussing something Star Wars related, and often it’s a heated, spoiler-ridden debate that gets forced into a locked Slack channel. As you can imagine, SpeedTree being used in the latest Star Wars films is a huge honor.
SpeedTree first appeared in The Force Awakens, thanks to the incredible ILM artists that began using our software on 2009’s Avatar. Eleven years later, we’re thrilled to remain an important part of the ILM pipeline! This year, we’re celebrating Star Wars Day by rehashing some favorite fan theories with the team and revisiting the three films that used SpeedTree. Scroll down on your datapad for a closer look at The Force Awakens, Rogue One, and The Rise of Skywalker. [/col]

“Anytime a tree moves, we created it in SpeedTree so we could animate it…” – ILM Environment Supervisor Susumu Yukuhiro, Computer Graphics World
