Forests

For those who don’t want to download the full installer, each forest can be downloaded individually. Check out below what each unique world has to offer! Clicking the image will send you to the Pangaea Image Browser, where you can see several screen shots from each forest.

Prairie Meadow

The Prairie Meadow is a great place to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon, and serves as a perfect home base in the land of Pangaea. This rustic landscape flows with subtle rolling hills covered in thick late summer wild grasses and flowers. Pin Oaks, London Planes, Grey Poplars, Green Ashes and other trees provide canopies of shade where you can sit and observe the amazing detail and realistic lighting of the scenery. Scattered amongst the foliage are the remnants of the meadow’s former inhabitants, remembered now by nothing more than a few dilapidated fence posts, condemned shacks and curious chimneys. Whether you’re hiding in the trees or surveying the landscape with the WIDV news chopper, the Prairie Meadow feels like home.

The Outback

For those thirsty for exotic travel, The Outback is the forest for you! Inspired by King’s Canyon, Australia, The Outback’s terrain shifts dramatically from flat valleys to weather-beaten mesas. Climb the rock faces yourself and enjoy the view from the hidden flats above, or catch a ride with the knowledgeable tour guides from Outback Flyby. In the valleys, take a close up look at the realism of the varying species of Eucalyptus Gum trees, Mulgas, and awkwardly shaped Baobabs. Hike through sticks and bushes, and listen for the distant didjeridus and wildlife.

Forgotten Forest

The Forgotten Forest is found near the uninhabited edges of Pangaea, where it has been waiting dormant for thousands of years. Here the conventions of reality cease to exist, replaced by unwelcome nightmares and morbid fantasies. This forest showcases the ability of SpeedTree to create a disturbing ambiance and set the darkest mood for a scene. Gnarled bark and twisted branches end at the mossy, finger-like tips of trees you never knew existed. The distant horizon is black as night, but eerily enticing. Unnatural light follows you from an unknown source as you explore, but watch your back! You may not be alone here after all…

See first hand SpeedTree’s diverse possibilities, ranging from tall, flexible Queen Palms to flowering Pagoda Trees, even thick patches of bamboo or majestic Weeping Willows. For a breathtaking view of dried riverbeds running down to sandy marshes, ride with the boys in the Huey as they do a little afternoon reconnaissance. The mood is completed with relics of war camouflaged amongst the exotic plants, and 3D environmental sounds that will have you diving for cover in the windblown Elephant Grass and rice paddies.

Mojave Desert

The Mojave Desert just plain feels hot. Striated sand dunes, cracked mud plates, and scattered shrubbery serve as a host for the life forms that eke out their desperate, waterless lives here. Several species of cacti and palms, ancient Bristle Cones and the region’s mascot, the Joshua Tree all call this barren wilderness home. And remember,  these extreme examples of Darwinism were all created using SpeedTree CAD, the tree creation software that delivers nearly boundless possibilities. Object-to-object shadow casting and bump mapped bark & branches are especially dramatic in the hundreds of square miles of desert found here.

Mojave Desert

Our tree models, all viewable in the tree browser, come with several variations; seasonal from spring to winter, as well as both real time (around 1,000 polygons) and medium detail (3,000 to 10,000 polygons). New England Autumn showcases a collection of our most vibrant fall foliage. The horizon is speckled with bright natural colors over the dying, dry fields of untamed grass, juxtaposed with dark rock faces and a candy colored skyline. This forest, like the Prairie Meadow’s late seasoned, northern counterpart, is the place to go for a little quiet contemplation.

Dry Sierra

Scour the Sierra Nevada mountains with the fire rescue team during the dry season, and keep the tourists free from danger. This forest has the most extreme elevation changes in all of Pangaea, and some of the most scenic views as a result. Miles of mountains disappear into the hazy fog during a late sunset. Towering White Pines make the distant horizons burst with realism. Sit down for a picnic and send your post-card perfect screenshots to your friends!
