Welcome To Trees of Pangaea™

With seven incredible forests, from the Mojave Desert to the Australian Outback, through Asia and the Dry Sierra and into your “forgotten” nightmares, in 2004 the Trees of Pangaea™ demo set the standard of environmental realism and beauty.
Built with SpeedTree®RT, Trees of Pangaea™ features windblown trees and grass, subtle lighting effects and hundreds of thousands of trees, plants, palms, cacti, grasses – you name it – spread across vast terrains covering hundreds of square miles.

NOTE:
SpeedTree is a hardware independent foliage solution and can run on many systems. However, hardware requirements for Trees of Pangaea™ are set high to show off the SDK’s greatest capabilities. Before downloading Trees of Pangaea™, please see the Hardware Requirements.
Numerous features of the Trees of Pangaea demo, including terrain generation and lighting algorithms, were developed by IDV exclusively for this demo and are not available commercially. The grass creation technology is available to SpeedTree licensees under certain conditions but is not part of the SpeedTree offering. For more information about SpeedGrass, contact IDV.

Collision detection -
New proprietary sunlight algorithm -
Unique helicopters (or other “craft”) in each forest
with realistic physics, wind effects, & auto-pilot -
Terrain Engine uses user-configurable heightmap -

- Press ‘F1’ to cycle through the help overlays
- Press ‘1’ to navigate manually (standard first person shooter controls)
- Press ‘F5’ to return to auto camera
- Manually fly the helicopter using the arrow keys to steer, ‘E’ to accelerate, and ‘Q’ to decelerate
- Toggle the grass visibility with ‘G’
- Toggle the ground/grass shadows with ‘X’
- Toggle the projected object shadows with ‘V’
- Use the ‘Edit..’ button on the dialog to change the look of the forest
- Each forest contains a HeightMap.tga file – the alpha plane contains the actual height map definition
- Each time F5 is pressed, a random camera location is picked, sometimes attached to the helicopter, sometimes not
- Note that the “high_detail” worlds are intended to run on 6800 and X800-class hardware to achieve 30+ fps at 1600x1200
- The objects in the world are randomly placed – change the .env config files to modify the object counts and other parameters
- 1600 x 1200 resolution screenshots are available for download, packaged per forest, from the
